Ho Chi Minh City Businesses Join Forces on the “Green Path” Toward Sustainable Development

The Ho Chi Minh City Green Business Association (HGBA) has emerged as a pioneer in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development nationwide.

HGBA (short for HCMC Green Business Association) was officially established on the afternoon of June 10. The association aims to bring together a pioneering force in building a green economy through activities that promote green transformation and spread sustainable values within the business community.

The founding congress of HGBA for its first term (2025–2030) was held this afternoon, with delegates from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, various departments and industry associations, along with nearly 150 businesses involved in green transformation.

Mr. Dinh Hong Ky, Chairman of the Board of Secoin Corporation, was elected President of HGBA for its first term. As an innovator in the development of green materials and a prominent contributor within the business community, Mr. Ky is expected to lead HGBA as a key driver of green transformation among enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.

The congress also elected an Executive Committee consisting of 52 members, including 17 Standing Committee members and 3 Supervisory Board members, representing various sectors such as manufacturing, construction, energy, finance, and technology. This will be the core team behind HGBA’s green initiatives.

President Dinh Hong Ky stated: “This is not just an administrative milestone, but the beginning of a journey to build a green future. It is a path where we, as pioneering businesses, join forces to spread the spirit of sustainable development throughout Vietnam’s business community.”

He emphasized, “Green transformation is no longer optional — it’s a survival imperative.” He further noted that climate change caused losses equivalent to 3.2% of Vietnam’s GDP in 2020. Without action, those losses could reach up to 14.5% of annual GDP by 2050.

He reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to this cause, citing Vietnam’s Net Zero carbon pledge by 2050 and the development of a carbon market. In addition, the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), announced during the 45th ASEAN–EU Summit in Belgium in late 2022, pledged to mobilize $15.5 billion in financial support to aid Vietnam’s energy transition and emissions reduction efforts.

Despite these commitments, Mr. Ky noted that the gap between promises and action remains wide — and it is the business community in Vietnam that must take the lead in turning vision into reality. Accordingly, HGBA is envisioned as a network for coordinated action, where larger businesses guide smaller ones, and where each member can begin or accelerate their green transformation journey.

For 2025 alone, HGBA expects to welcome up to 200 new members, according to President Ky.

From 2025 to 2027, HGBA plans to implement several key initiatives, including the establishment of a Green Transition Support Center for SMEs; the launch of a digital platform called the Green Business Hub to connect members; organization of industry-specific trade fairs and sustainability forums; green technology consulting and transfer; promotion of green finance; energy audits; and product life-cycle assessments.

HGBA also plans to explore the creation of a carbon credit trading platform and the launch of a green investment fund to help businesses access favorable financial resources for their transition. The association will expand its membership to include businesses in Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau provinces.

According to President Dinh Hong Ky, HGBA is committed to supporting its members in enhancing competitiveness, innovating technologies, accessing green finance, and integrating with global standards. At the same time, the association will act as a policy partner, reflecting ground realities and proposing practical support mechanisms for businesses on the path toward green transformation.
